This station is special to me, in that it was the first bench mark disk I ever set eyes on; that was over 40 years ago, when I was 15, while walking with friends along the tracks. On to the description:

This station is a US Coast and Geodetic Survey standard bench mark disk, set in the top of the southwest abutment of a railroad bridge (35.71), at the junction of Junction Road (CT State Route 133) and the north terminus of Stony Hill Road to the east of the bridge, and Junction Road and the southern terminus of Pocono Road to the west of the bridge. The mark is stamped -Q 15 1935-, and is located 7 ft west of the west rail, and 3 ft lower than the rail.

This location was/is known as Brookfield Junction, hence the name of the road. A quarter-mile south of here, between Stony Hill Road and the track, is an area of nothingness today that, not quite a century ago, was one of the busiest parts of town. Looking at it today, few would believe it, at least the historically informed. There was a railroad station, a depot, a turntable for locomotives, a rail-yard, a saloon and, according to folklore, even a house of ill-repute. Ironically, that building was the last to go, it burned down in 2006 (It was the sole hold-out for 70+ years, everything else was gone by the 1940s). The bridge had two, possibly three sets of tracks over it, which explains the extra wide abutments. All that remains is a single set of tracks, just passing through an empty cut. At least the rail is still alive.
