Public well by riverside - Porvoo, Finland - Hand Operated Water Pumps on Waymarking.com

In Porvoo the construction of public wells and water pumps became necessary in the late 19th century, when the town's settlement spread south, to the present Empire district. There were many wells in Porvoo in 19th and 20th century but when the water supply network were constructed these became unnecessary and were demolished. Fortunately two public well still exist in Porvoo and are landmarks here.
This is the oldest public well in Porvoo dating from 1848. Pump has two pumping handles around it as seen in pictures. Unfortunately it is not operational any more.
