These two large, side-by-side crosses that are viewable from Interstate 15 honor two fallen public safety servants.

The text on the signs read:
"Agent Robert "Bob" Hutchings
July 20, 1976
"Bob" Hutchings served as a deputy sheriff for Sacramento County California, before he joined the Utah Department of Public Safety in 1974, as agent with the Narcotics and Liquor Law Enforcement Detail. He resided in Provo. On July 20, 1975 he was assisting the West Jordan Police Department with a drug investigation. After a cocaine purchase, officers obtained a warrant and attempted to arrest the suspect. The suspect produced a shotgun and shot Agent Hutchings in the neck. Agent Hutchings returned fire killing the suspect, but then died at the scene. This incident took place at 588 E. 1700 S. in Salt Lake City, Utah."

"Trooper Joseph "Joey" Brumett
December 11, 1992
"Joey" Brumett joined the Utah Highway Patrol in March 1992. Following the policy academy, he was assigned to field operations in Salt Lake County. On December 11, 1992, Trooper Brumett was dispatched to a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 at 2800 South, approximately 3 miles north of this location. As he was directing traffic, Trooper Brumett was struck by a pickup truck. After the pickup truck struck another vehicle the driver fled on foot. Trooper Brumett died at the scene. The suspect was later apprehended and convicted of hit-and-run and driving without a license."
