The Desmond-Fish Library serves the Hudson Highlands area with more than 27,000 books and an extensive electronic media collection. The Library was founded in 1980 by Alice Curtis Desmond and Hamilton Fish, Sr.

(from library website: (visit link) )

"This library project was instigated and donated by Mrs. Fish who is an historian in her own right and has written 22 books, many of them translated into foreign languages. This library belongs to the community and everyone is invited to attend the opening ceremonies on November 2, 1980 at 3:00.

The main objective is to establish a community library, open to all the people. It will start as a small acorn, and will soon become a sturdy oak for community service, learning and education. It will be the center of history of all the counties on the Hudson River from New York City to Albany, and Troy, with special reference to early American history before and during the Revolutionary War"
