The plaque reads:

'35 High Street
Built in 1835 as the ironmonger's shop and
plough manufactory of John Howard (1791-1878),
five times Mayor of Bedford. The Howard Plough,
which was awarded a prize medal at the
Great Exhibition (1851), stood on the parapet until 1969.'

Today the building is home to Wilkinsons.
