The Bell Street Historic District of Shawnee consists of nine contributing buildings and the brick paving along Bell Street. The entire downtown area of Shawnee has many historic buildings dating back to pre- and early Statehood c. 1907.
All along the 100 block of N. Bell Street can be seen excellent examples of early settlement construction, with their sturdy and decorative brick designs that were meant to please the eye, and last more than a lifetime.
Along this section of Bell Street, the roadway is paved with red brick (3" x 2" x 11") made in Kansas and brought to Shawnee by railroad. Walking throughout this area is a step back in time.
