Within the Kachemak Bay State Park at a beach on the western corner of Halibut Cove Lagoon, is a trail register for the China Poot Trail.

This register is placed here for people who may have arrived by boat to the beach here. From this location, you can either go roughly west along the Coalition Loop Trail to China Poot Bay and, if you continue, go to China Poot Lake, or go roughly east to a junction with a trail toward the ranger station to the Kachemak Bay State Park, or on the China Poot Trail to China Poot Lake and China Poot Mountain. The ways are hilly. The way to China Poot Bay crosses over a pass approximately 500 ft in elevation to another bay. The China Poot Trail also has an elevation change of 500 ft. The way to the ranger station is roughly at 50 ft elevation.

Kachemak Bay State Park is a remote park that is currently Alaska's third largest, with about 400,000 acres on the lowest portion of the Kenai Peninsula. There is no fee for walking the trails that I could determine. There are permits needed to use the public use cabins and the camp sites. There are no roads to this park. Thus, you have to arrive either by boat or by seaplane. Water taxis are available from Homer.
