The interesting coat of arms of Poole includes the ancient symbols representing the nautical history of the area. There is a dolphin which is thought of the king of fish; there are dolphin symbols all over Poole showing the pride of Poole with its busy port.

Three black scallop shells represent connections with Spain over 600 years ago. It is the shrine of St James the Great at Santiago de Compostela who inspires this symbol as it is his own symbol. Scallops are also an enduring icon of Poole found all over the town. The black colouring in the coat of arms originates from the Spanish art of carving scallop shells from azabache-jet.

As a port regularly used by the Spanish, Poole was a place popular for trade and piracy. Pilgrims sought after souvenirs with the black scallops being highly regarded.

At the bottom of the coat of arms is the motto "Ad Morem Villae De Poole" meaning "According to the Custom of the Town of Poole".

This window dates to 1907 and originates from the Corfe Mullen Waterworks.
