Mt. Mitchell, NC Geodetic - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

Go to Mount Mitchell State Park off of the Blue Ridge Parkway just north of Ashville, NC. At the park go to the peak. Once at the peak, on our way back down you will see the upper trailhead for the Basalm Nature Trail. This trail will take you back to the parking lot a little further down the Mtn. Once on the trail, you will soon come to a big rock on the right of the trail. a few feet behind that rock is the way to get up on the rock. Right there is a "much less traveled trail." Take it to the first fork, then go right and now just 5 feet and you are at the Benchmark. Enjoy this forest, because it is ever changing. Acid rain and other conditions is killing this forest, but the existing forest and all of the dead trees being covered in moss has made it even more beautiful. Enjoy this trail.
