In Kirkland, within the Juanita Bay Park, there are several trails to explore the wetland habitats on this part of Lake Washington. One of them is an old section of Market Street. Two others are boardwalks that extend into the marsh.

The one specifically taken is the West Boardwalk Nature Trail. This one is the longer of the two boardwalks and goes out to a point that defines the marsh from the lake. The East Boardwalk Trail extends out into the middle of the marsh.

The West boardwalk is actually forked. A small section less than 100 feet long extends out to an observation area that also overlooks the marsh. The longer section has views of the marsh as well as mud flats and open bay. While we were walking, we saw many turtles, a frog, a great blue heron, as well as many water fowl too far to make out markings (at least to an amateur like me). There are a few interpretive signs on the boardwalk.

The eastern boardwalk zig-zags for about 450 ft and also ends at an observation platform.

Juanita Bay Park is a municipal park run by Kirkland. There is parking right off 98th Avenue NE. The walk to the boardwalks does slope downward on a paved path. With assistance (strong arms), a wheelchair probably could go down there, though I'm not an expert on accessibility.
