In Seattle, at the monorail platform next to the Space Needle, and not far from the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum, is a metal bench that has the name "Sonic Bench 2009" on the top. The bench is a curved metal bench with holes in it, and several buttons at the top and along the bottom lip of the seat. Each button makes a unique percussion sound. The buttons can be played in any order. If you are looking for inspiration, there is a score with notes at the top of the bench.
Unfortunately, I saw on the blog that the bench will be there for only a year. So, if there is anyone in the Seattle area, go NOW to visit it. There is no information available as to whether the bench will be placed in a permanent location elsewhere.
The bench is in fair condition, however. While it is still usable for sitting, many of the buttons to make sounds do not work anymore. I was hoping at some point it might be fixed with more durable parts, but the blog note puts a damper (:^)) on that idea.
The bench is only accessible to those using the monorail. The monorail is $2 and will take you into downtown Seattle. The bench is visible from outside the gate, however.
