During the centennial of the Battle of the Alamo, the Daughters of the Republic (DAR),who manage the Alamo property, used about 71% of the federal grant money allocated for repairs to the Alamo to build this mission-styled museum(1). The middle area of the museum is a miniturized display of the historic structure as it was in 1837 during the 13 day battle. It shows representations of the Mexican army manuvering to storm the defenders of the Alamo. Inside the museum are displays of historical relics from the famous battle. It also acts as a gift shop where tourists can purchase maps, books, reproductions, packets of bluebonnet seeds and faux coonskin caps(1). The frieze designs around the doorways and the stone structuring of the museum allow it to blend into the rest of the historic buildings without distraction that it is 100 years younger. The museum is rectangular with a door at both ends. The date of 1937 is over both doors. The Alamo address is 300 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX, 78205. Admission is FREE, but it would be appropriate to drop a donation into the boxes located around the Alamo grounds.
