Self-propelled Twin Anti-aircraft Artillery Gun, 40mm (M42 "Duster")

The M42 "Duster" was the first self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery gun placed into full production by the U.S. Military. Developed during the Korean War for the express purpose of anti-aircraft defense amid rugged terrain, "Dusters" served a valuable secondary role as infantry-support assault guns, delivering a high volume of fire against field obstacles. It used the M41 "Walker Bulldog" light tank chassis and a twin-gun turret. Production continued from 1952 until 1957, with 3,700 built.

It saw combat in Korea and Vietnam. Soldiers trained with it at Camp Ripley in the 1960's and 70's. While no longer in U.S. service, the M42 is still used by Austria, Germany, Japan and several Middle Eastern countries.
