At the intersection of N. 2nd Avenue and E. Main Street in downtown Stroud, is a beautifully landscaped area known as Ed. Smalley Centennial Park. This is an area with a lovely gazebo, a bronze eagle sculpture and a beautiful war memorial.
The memorial consists of three granite monuments honoring the Stroud Area Veterans who served in both war and peace. In front of this is an area approximately 20 ft. by 25 ft. with engraved bricks and pavers donated by those who contributed to this effort. The bricked area is lovely in itself, and the engraving in many cases is very ornate and decorative. It adds much to the impact of this beautiful park and memorial.
An engraved block from the City of Stroud shows their claim: "2,000,000 people in a 60 mile radius."
