UPDATE: 11/11/17 Alas, it is reported that this sign is no longer there.
Directly across Route 66 from the historic National Guard Armory, which is now occupied as the Route 66 Interpretive Center museum, is a concrete block Welcome Sign, listing several distinctions of the town. The sign is approximately 10 ft. high and 16 ft. wide and is sponsored by the Chandler Lions Club.
The Chandler points of distinction are:
** The town was established during a separate Land Run September 28, 1891
** Chandler is the birthplace of the Oklahoma Territorial Militia (otherwise known as the Oklahoma National Guard).
** Chandler is the mid-point of Route 66, in both Oklahoma and its full length from Chicago to California.
** Chandler is the home of 16 buildings which have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This is definitely a town worth visiting.
