One way you can tell how long someone has lived in this area is by what they call this location: Mead (opened 1916), Willamette (acquired in 1995), Weyerhaeuser (2002), or Domtar (2007).

The MEAD CORPORATION (open by appointment), W. Main St., manufactures paper for magazines and books, and produces 100 tons of paper daily. The wood used by the Mead Corporation is shipped from seven Southern States, and the Kingsport Press uses a part of the output.

----- TENNESSEE - A Guide to the State (third printing 1949)

"The Mead" which opened in 1916 is now owned by Domtar link . The primary product is photocopy paper. (Remember that we were to be a "paperless" society by now.)
"The Press", which was across the street, is gone (literally, as the buildings are being torn down).
