Davenport is a town of about 870 people, 6 miles east of the county seat of Chandler, in Lincoln County. It is located on Route 66, just east of the halfway point of The Mother Road.
The town was settled during the Sac and Fox Opening in September 1892. The town has an agricultural history, and today is a town where most folks work out of town.
The New Era newspaper is a monthly community paper, catering to the needs of the town itself. As a reminder that we're talking about small-town here, there is a sign on the front door that directs clientele, if the office happens to be closed, to drop off their information to be published at so-and-so up the block! A subscription to the paper costs $10.00 per year.
This is a one-story building located at 209 Broadway in the downtown section of town. The street in front of the building is brick, and the brick roadway is on the National Register of Historic Places. A beautiful painted mural of the town's history is on the north side of the building.
