While in Traverse City, I stopped in the Grand Traverse Commons.
Formerly the Traverse City State Hospital.
Close in 1989, and around 2002 the Minervini Group got the property from the state.
I asked a groundsmen if any of the buildings still had signs in it.
He said many of them still do on the inside only.
And he said to asked a manager with the MAM Contracting.
I was at the right place at the right time.
I was allowed to tag along with the manager and a pest control person.
I had to sign a wavier due to the Asbestos and Lead paint in the buildings. We went into the north wing which has not been redone yet.
We went into the basement area and on the first floor.
There is one sign on the first floor.
Capacity on the sign is 600. and has the STARTS HERE > Overlay.
No supplies of any kind are left in any of the buildings.
Exact number of shelters on the property is unknown.
Property was vacant for a long time.
I did see one other building that had the 14x20 inch rectangle on the wall where you could see where the sign had been mounted.
Access is restricted to the other buildings, and I was lucky to get a chance to photograph part of the north wing.
Capacity of shelter: 600

Radiation monitoring equipment: no
