Na míste puvodního dreveného mostu pres vltavu (první zpráva o moste je již z roku 1229) byl v roce 1892 zkonstruován ocelový most podle návrhu zemského vrchního inženýra Josefa Mayra a stavbyvedoucího Ing. Františka Schumandla.
Stavba zacala 2. kvetna 1892, stavbu pilíre provedl pražský stavitel Jan Kruliš se synem Otakarem. Ocelovou konstrukci vyrobila Pražská mostárna pod c. 1478. 17. ríjna 1892 se konala zatežkávací zkouška mostu, následne byl 4. listopadu most slavnostne vysvecen a predán verejnosti.
Most má dve šedesátimetrová pole, uprostred reky s jedním kamenným pilírem, steny jsou složeny z nosníku spojených segmentovými prvky príhradové konstrukce. V roce 1996 byl rekonstruován nákladem 5,5 mil. korun podle projektu brnenské kanceláre Ing. A. Pechala.
V prubehu historie bylo toto místo prechodu Vltavy, jediné na úseku mezi Ceskými Budejovicemi a Prahou, významným strategickým bodem, zejména v neklidných válecných dobách.

The original wooden bridge over the Vltava (the first report on the bridge as early as 1229) was designed in 1892 by a steel bridge designed by the Earth's chief engineer and superintendent of Josef Mayr Ing. Francis Schumandla.
Construction began the second May 1892, the construction of pillars made Prague architect John Krulis his son Otakar. Steel-made Bridgeworks Prague under No. 1478th 17th October 1892 took a test for the bridge, then was 4 Bridge consecrated in November and delivered to the public.
The bridge has two sixty meters long field in the middle of the river with one stone pillars, walls are composed of beam elements connected the truss segment.
In 1996 it was reconstructed cost 5.5 million crowns by project offices in Brno Ing. A. Pechal.
Throughout history, this place was crossing the Vltava river, only the section between Ceske Budejovice and Prague, an important strategic point, especially in turbulent times of war.
