The Western Canada Power Company Limited built this route to help two hydroelectric dams along the Stave River. Today a 5.7 km stretch has been preserved as a rails-to-trails route.

The rails-to-trails follows the western shore of Hayward Lake for 5.7 km between the Ruskin and Stave Falls dams. With the exception of diversions around trestles that have become unusable.
