PPG Place is the headquarters of Pittsburgh Plate Glass and consists of six buildings surrounding a plaza. The buildings are remarkable for being covered in glass and topped with spires. The buildings contain over one million square feet of PPG's Solarban 550 Twindow with 19,750 panes in all.
The glass exterior reflects heat in the summer, and in winter infrared heat is reflected inside. The building also recirculates heat from computers and is highly energy-efficient.
Pittsburgh Plate Glass constructed the six buildings in 1984 to serve as its headquarters and occupies about half of One PPG Place. The remaining space is leased out and maintains a high occupancy rate.
