The information sign reads:
OH 58 Kiowa Helicopter:
The Bell OH 58 Kiowa Warrior is the Army's first true armed scout helicopter. It is highly versatile and can be used for armed reconnaissance, security, command and control, target acquisition/designation, transport, Medevac and light air combat missions. The Army received its first OH 58's in May 1969 and they were deployed to Vietnam shortly thereafter.
Different versions of the Kiowa carry different combinations of armament. Retrofit programs begun in 1991 now provide air-to-ground weapons and various Hellfire or Stinger missle launchers, plus 7.62mm or .50 calibur machine guns. The OH 58 displayed here is the first model; a later version, OH 58D is still in wide use within the U.S Armed Forces.
