Located in the main street, this pub is the oldest one in Dorchester. Having survived fires, plague, wars and more modern traumas The Old Ship Inn is a fine place to visit.

The pub came into existence in about 1600 and the front bears the original oak windows. Altered in the 1930s the mantel from the old fireplace was removed; this can now be found in the Dorset County Museum nearby.

The Old Ship Inn sign is an unusual, cut-out design. It shows a golden sun shining on a galleon as it glides across the waves. Many flags are flying in the wind as the sails bellow. There is a high amount of detail in this sign, so we hope it remains as it is.

Date of first pub on site: Circa. 1600
