This large mural is in a small sidewalk park that includes a fountain and penny-farthing bicycle sculpture. The perspective and illusion of the mural looks as if it was painted on large brown stones - this is only illusion. The mural is on the side of a brick building.
The painted 'banner' (sadly defaced by a green paint ball) reads:
SIMPSON-SANDERS Bldg.
1896
1896 - Locally called the Anna Dora Opera House for the names of the owner's daughters. The upstairs has a platform and oil lamps for a stage which was used for H.S. graduations, operatic and theatrical events. Social gatherings took place and silent films were shown.
1922 - Upstairs used for storage of farm equipment and tractor parts.
1939 - Building was gutted by predawn fire, Dec. 27th.
1896 to the Present - The corner of Third and Main has been a hardware store.
For more information, visit the Delta County Museum at Third and Meeker Streets.
There is a mural on the front of this building that honors the hardware store mentioned on the painted 'banner.'
