In a dry season, these springs are nothing more than a damp spot on the ground. However, they were important in local history to the original native American inhabitants, and then to the Spanish rancheros. They received their current name when an Irish immigrant, Martin Murphy, Sr. bought this ranch in 1845.
Now the little area of land containing the springs is an almost-forgotten public park.
