A simple marker recounting a momentous bit of American history.

The marker is simple, and states all that needs to be said:
"Under this tree Washington first took command of the American army, July 3d, 1775".
While the tree at the site is clearly not 250 years old, the fact remains that George Washington became the leader of the troops that day on that spot, which would lead to Dorchester Heights, Valley Forge, and American independence.
