The Ford Building, designed by Albert Kahn, one of the most prolific industrial architects of the twentieth century, was built in 1924 to be a regional sales, service, distribution, and assembly building for Ford Motors. As an assembly plant, it allowed Ford to keep costs down by transporting parts instead of finished automobiles, plus it created winter jobs for local farmers
The building was erected in the Railroad Terminal district of the city. It was one of the factors in turning Salt Lake City from an agricultural village to a booming industrial metropolis. It is a two story reinforced concrete building with brick curtain walls. The interior has been divided into separate areas for various tenants while still retaining as much of the feel of the original building as possible.
The Ford Building remains, today, a historic representative of the industrial architure of its day.
