The town of Conde was platted in 1886 and was orginally named Coral. A post office was established on March 19, 1887, and the Postmaster was Emery Holliday.

In 1982, the name was changed to Conde and named for the Conde family of France. The town was named by the wife of a railroad official.
The town was incorporated in 1890.

Currently, the population of the town is around 190, and is located in Spink County, Conde Township. It is located on South Dakota Highway 37.

As with any small community, it struggles populationwise but the people who live here are proud of their town and are striving to improve. A new community center was recently constructed for the enjoyment of the citizens. There is a local volunteer fire department and an active American Legion Post. The town also has a Methodist and a Baptist church.

Several businesses still flourish in this agriculture based community.
