Dover is a small town located in Olmsted County, Minnesota, on US Highway 14 just east of Rochester.
Its population as of July 2009 was 649, reflecting a 48% increase from the 2000 census. The area was settled by German, Norwegian, Irish, Polish, and English peoples.
The history of Dover began in May 1854 during a great surge of migration from the East. Many came to Minnesota and to the Dover area seeking rich farm and timber lands. The early settlers, for the most part, were young, strong, daring and determined to find a new life in a new frontier.
The quaint villiage was originally called Dover Center but later shortened to Dover when it was organized in May of 1859. In December 1908, Dover was incorporated by State Law.
On July 4, 2008, Dover celebrated its Centennial.
