Hyde Park was a rapidly expanding industrial town on the banks of the Neponset River that was incorporated in 1868 from portions of Milton, Dorchester, and Dedham. In the creation of this town, Milton deeded 400 acres of land along the banks of the Neponset. This section of the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston is the only portion that lies south of the Neponset River. This 2-foot granite border marker was erected on Fairmount Ave to mark the division between Hyde Park and Milton. The post is found on the side of the road in the flower bed of 312 Fairmount Ave, Milton. The initials "HP" (Hyde Park) are engraved on the side facing NW and "M" (Milton) is engraved on the side facing SE. The post leans at a severe angle to the SE. In 1912, Hyde Park was annexed by the city of Boston, so the post is now obsolete, although it still deliniates the Boston/Milton border.
