Along with this geodetic monument is a beautiful view of the town of Horta and its harbor, as well as a lovely view of Pico.
This geodetic monument was placed by the Portuguese Cadastral and Cartographic Institute (IPCC) on the island of Faial during 1997. Although a relatively new monument, it already has acquired an important history. It was one of several monuments used to estimate the coseismic displacements resulting from the 1998 Faial earthquake, which killed eight people and left 1,000 homeless.
