Marker Name: A20 - J.P. Keyes House
Marker Text: John Pease Keyes was one of the first lumbermen to investigate the stands of yellow pine in this area. As early as 1887, he accompanied Sam Blakley on an expedition to survey timber south of present-day Bend. He went to work for the Brooks-Scanlon Company, and steadily moved up the corporate ladder. Following two years as a pulp mill manager for Brooks-Scanlon in British Columbia, Keyes transferred to Bend in 1912. He held his position as vice-president and general manager of the Bend plant until his death in 1920. His widow, jennie Keyes lived in th home until her death in 1970.
