On the hexagonal buttress of the south west corner of the clock tower are a pair of vertical sundials. These dials were restored in 1913, replacing an earlier dial designed by Butterfield and repainted in 1614 at a cost of 18 pence.
St Botolph is the patron saint of travelers early users of sundials. This church was originally near the town gate on the main road south from Cambridge.
My reference is "Cambridge Sundials" by Alexis Brookes and Margaret Stanier available form the British Sundial Society.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
