The plaque states...
"The vessels Elizabeth, Annie M. Young and Cingalee are believed to have been wrecked in the vicinity of this plaque. The Midas sank offshore to the north-west and the Agra was wrecked nearby, but successfully refloated.
ELIZABETH. A wooden schooner of 100 tons built of teak at Calcutta India, wrecked on the 17th November 1843. It was loaded with whale oil and other material from the wreck of the "North America".
MIDAS. A 390 tons, 43 metres long wooden barque wrecked on the 10th March 1872 whilst loaded with 21 metres long wooden piles.
ANNIE .M. YOUNG. A 345 tons, 33 metres long wooden brig wrecked with a cargo of timber on the 3rd November 1876.
CINGALEE. A 325 tons, 40 metres long wooden barque built at Dundee scotland, wrecked ashore on 18th June 1887.
AGRA. A 962 tons wooden barque wrecked on the 25th July 1895. It was condemned and sold, but later repaired and renamed "Rose".
Contemporary diarist, E. H. Withers, records that many of these wrecks were broken up and the timbers used for many purposes, "mostly firewood".
