This building has had a long history, both as a government building and for other uses. As the original City Hall for Salt Lake City it was also the meeting place of territorial legislators for many years. At various times it served as police headquarters, fire department headquarters, and a school for the blind. In the early 1960's it was completely dismantled and totally restored at its present location. It now serves as the headquarters for the Utah Travel Council and Zion Natural History Association book store.

Its two most interesting features occupy the grounds at each front corner of the building. At the northwest corner is the "International" bison. This bison wears the flags of many of the different ethnic groups that contributed to the great economic growth of the area during the first 50 years after the initial emigration. At the northeast corner is the "Suitcase" bison, representing a piece of luggage bearing travel stickers from many of Utah's top scenic attractions.

The coordinates were taken at the Utah Historical Sign indicating designation of this building as being on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Travel Council is a great source of (free) information for travel anywhere in Utah and the bookstore has in-depth literature (for sale) that can add greatly to your Utah travels. The Utah Travel Council is open Monday-Thursday 7:00AM to 6:00PM. The Zion Natural History Bookstore in the building is open Monday-Friday 9:00AM to 6:00PM and weekends 10:00AM to 5:00PM. The free information provided by the Travel Council is located in the bookstore and is accessible during bookstore hours.
