A tall gothic cross memorial atop a rocky outcrop adjacent to St Mary’s Church, Ambleside.

The tall cross is octagonal in section. Beneath the cross is a square plinth. At each corner of the plinth is a circular pillar with an angel atop the pillar. The plinth is on top of a two stage base. The inscriptions are on slate panels on three sides of the plinth.
The names of the fallen are on the side panels. On the front panel, below a wreath, is the inscription

GLORY OF GOD
AND IN PROUD AND
LOVING REMEMBRANCE
OF THE MEN OF
AMBLESIDE
WHO FELL IN
THE GREAT WAR
1914 – 1918
THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD AS
WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD,
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM
