Wilshire Service Station/Red Triangle - Selma, CA - U.S. Route 99 - The Pacific Highway on Waymarking.com

In this location US Route 99 followed Whitson Avenue through Selma which comprised the ca. 1930s realignment of the mainline highway. This spot is on the north side of town. The highway's previous routing was on West Front Street which was .25 miles to the east. In the 1950s it was moved .25 miles further west. Regardless of what a traveler might come across on a highway and the highway's location, one thing you were sure to see along the old road was the gas station. And unlike modern day filling stations with the obligatory Convenience Store where you can buy just about anything, gas stations of this vintage served gas, oil, tires, and the occasional tuneup.

According to one Source this was a Wilshire Service Station owned by the Aubuchon Family. Their house was a single story frame house adjacent to the filling station and garage. Another Source says this was a Red Triangle Gas Station and there is slight evidence on the station sign between ghosted 9/10 and the word GAS of the Red Triangle logo. Given the sporadic nature of Petroleum Companies its likely both source are correct. Today these buildings are literally shells of their former selves but largely in tact as a reminder of their former significance.
