The Echelon Airfield was started in 1939 by Rogers and Jeanne Smith. It was named after their flying club. There were three grass runways, hangars, gift shop, and café. The airfield was used for crop dusters, flying lessons, and recreational flying. Echelon Mall was built on the site in 1970. The airfield was located along Somerdale Rd. and Burnt Mill Rd.
