Many cities across the nation created their own local versions of the 1893 World Exhibition and Fair of Chicago, all dubbed White City. They were all painted white and covered head to toe in electric light bulbs, which would have been quite a sight in that era!

The Tower of Jewels, the large tower at the left, is now over 100 years old and is built in the original Beaux Arts style from when the park was first created by Denver brewer Adolph Zang and friends in 1908. At the time of it’s construction, this Beaux-Arts style tower was the tallest structure in Colorado at 150 feet!

The tower was designed by prominent Denver architect Edwin H. Moorman, and ground was broken on September 24, 1907. It was originally topped by a great 10 kilocandela spotlight used on the Ferris wheel at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The tower building itself was originally the park casino and casino theater, and today houses park offices. It is one of the original 15 buildings of the park, built by the Lakeside Realty & Amusement Company (commonly known as the Brewers Syndicate), headed by prominent Denver brewer Adolph Zang and including Godfrey Schirmer, Peter J. Friederich, John A. Keefe and Albert Lewin.

This wonderful historic park is still family owned and run by the Krasner family. Benjamin Krasner bought the park in the 1930s and gave it a wild Art Deco makeover, with the aid of renowned architect Richard Crowther. (Complied from (visit link) , (visit link) and (visit link) ).
