The church of ”holy spirit” in Oulujoki was built between 1907-1908 and it's the only survived wooden jugend style church in northern Finland. It was built to the north side of the river Oulujoki in the middle of forests and fields. The church was designed by the county architect Viktor J. Sucksdorff. During the years there were lot of rebuilding made, but in 1984 refurbishing started. The goal was to make the church as it was meant to be. Lately even the turf around the church has been partly replaced by the undergrowth brought from forest.
Church itself is 34 meters long, 15 meters wide. The height of the ceiling is 20 meters and the bell tower is 43 meters high. Inside the bell tower there are two bells that weight 700kg and 400kg. Near the church there is also a cemetery and war cemetery for those soldiers who lost their lives during 1939-1944.
Many beliefs that this is the most beautiful church in the region and therefore it is popular as a wedding church.
The church is open for public only on summer weekdays between 10-13.
