In Westwood, where Nahatan Street and Clapboardtree Street meet, is the Clapboardtree Church, a beautiful white painted church with a steeple. In the front lawn, by a small tree, is a peace pole. The pole is a standard four-sided post with "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on all four sides in eight languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Urdo, Pashto, Greek, Hebrew, and Arabic.
This pole was dedicated on June 13, 2010, with a ceremony. The pole is part of a peace garden, which includes the tree and several hand-made tiles planted by its base. This was part of the Sunday School's peace projects throughout the year. One project was to hold a fundraiser "Pennies for Peace." Each of the tiles was made by a class and presented to the congregation during service. Another project was to make origami cranes (a symbol of peace from a story about a girl in Japan).
Parking is available either in the lot next to the church off Nahatan Street or at the Fellowship Hall across Nahatan Street.
