Their emphasis is on waterwise plantings which will be in harmony with the natural environment, so their collection includes South African, Mediterranean, Australian, and Chilean gardens with plants that will naturally grow in California gardens.
There are over two hundred acres of designed plantings, nicely labeled. They're connected with 300 more acres of native ecology (currently being restored to native vegetation and wildlife). There is access to the Sacramento River Trail at either end of the arboretum.
It is part of Turtle Bay Exploration Park, but unlike the rest of the Turtle Bay facilities, the arboretum is open free to the public daily.
