As the Turtle Bay Exploration Park press release says, "... explore the creative and exciting design of Colleen Barry’s Mosaic Oasis. Over 65 local companies and individuals donated slabs of tile, broken mirrors, and chipped coffee mugs to help create this intimate, engrossing, and contemporary art piece that is central to the Children’s Garden. This fountain-sculpture is heavily influenced by Hispanic folk art and exuberant art from many parts of the world, including the work of the Art Nouveau-era Spaniard Antoni Gaudi and contemporary artist Niki de Saint Phalle.
... A turtle-shaped climbing feature leads to a curved wall with bench seating at various heights for relaxing or exploring ... - Glittery glass pieces, tile chips from the Sundial Bridge, and rough natural stone hide a “scavenger hunt” of plants and animals. The longer you look the more you’ll discover."
According to a plaque nearby, the work was supported by the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Record Searchlight.
