Located behind a small car parking area where recycling facilities are accessible this stone plinth is a hidden surprise. It has the following inscription:

'The Legend of Town Well

Wells were the only source of water for
local people before it was available from the
mains supply. Animals could also be brought
by their owners to drink at the trough.
This water was free for everyone.

This area was refurbished for the
Millennium by Bozeat Parish Council and
opened by the chairman
ANDREW UNDERWOOD
On May 6th 2000

Town Well was administered by the Church
.....Easter 1895 when it was handed over
to the Parish Council'

Wikipedia describes the well:
'There are many wells in the village, one of the most important being the communal 'Town Well', which came from a jet of water coming out of the side of a bank in Dychurch Lane. A charity was registered to pay for its upkeep.'
