V letech 1853–1855 byla mezi Brnem a Božím Požehnáním vystavena železnice. Projekt pripravili E. J. Herring a A. Rahn (majitel dolu ve Zbýšove), kterí spolu s brnenskými podnikateli založili spolecnost Brnensko-rosická dráha pro stavbu dráhy z Brna do Božího Požehnání (Zastávky). V roce 1871 E. J. Herring požádal o udelení koncese na stavbu trate z Božího Požehnání pres Trebíc do Jihlavy, která se mela stát soucástí zamýšlené Ceskomoravské transverzální dráhy. Na podzim roku 1871 však E. J. Herring náhle umírá. Jeho myšlenka se stala skutecností o 15 let pozdeji. Po slavnostním otevrení byla trat z Božího Požehnání do Okríšek predána do pravidelného provozu 4. cervna 1886.
