Yale at one time was heavily timbered, its lands rich with natural resources making it at one time one of the most prosperous locations in the Bath County. It isn't certain when Yale was first populated or who its first settler was, but according to those who remember what had been told them it was around 1790 to 1800.

Yale became the headquarters for mill, lumber, and oil companies. There was a post office which Myrtle Cassity was the postmaster. There were several large general stores, blacksmith shops, barber shops, dress shops, saloons and two hotels.

The "Little Dinky" railroad, one of the few ever built and owned in the county, ran from Yale to Salt Lick and back. It carried freight as well as passengers and made two trips daily, stopping at places along the way called Alley, Licking Union, Caney and Ragland. This railway was used for the Ragland Oil Fields. Some early names from Yale were Alley, Fannin, Williams, Cassity, Hunt, McKinney, Lewis, Power, Jones and Ragland.

There are still three houses located there owned by the descendants of the Cassity family on land not taken for Cave Run Lake.
