The Greek Temple Dogs are replicas of two Italian sculptures that flank the entrance to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy (visit link) and (visit link) . These sculptures follow the ancient tradition of placing statues of animals at the entrances of temples and city gates. They serve to protect the community and ward off trespassers. These dogs alone at 6' tall (1.8 m) and are carved from sandstone. (from Museum of Outdoor Arts Destination Art brochure, 2008).
