Garfield Park is a city park along Old Route 99 in Pomona, CA. This main feature is a World War I memorial at the center. The park is 3 acres in size and includes picnic areas and playgrounds. The War Memorial is named “Goddess of Fruit” and was sculpted by Burt Johnson. It was placed in the park in 1922. The attached plaque lists the names of area soldiers that were killed in action. The statue is described by the Pomona Public Library identifies the War Memorial thusly: Statue dedicated to "those from Pomona Valley who gave their lives for their Coventry." there is a stone platform with two people on the top. One person is dressed in modern clothing. It is a male figure. He has a clenched fist on his left side and right arm in up in the air, held my the second person. The other figure is a female dressed in ancient Greek clothing. She is standing behind the man.
