The town of Patoka, IN is the oldest town in Gibson County. The history of Patoka predates the formation of the formal Gibson County political boundaries. The Patoka Presbyterian Church Cemetery, next to and associated with the Patoka Presbyterian Church at 207 Graves Street, Patoka, IN 47666, contains gravesites that indicate from the inscriptions on the grave markers that this is the oldest cemetery in Gibson County. There are stones engraved with birth dates going back to the 1750s-1800s. Many of the family names of those entombed here are of those pioneers who forged the history of this state, this county and this town. This cemetery has also been referred to as the Old Patoka Cemetery. An estimated number of gravesites is probably about 300-400 gravesites.
