Monte Verità was famous for its colony of artists, writers and philosophers in the first two decades of the 20th century. The whole area was bought by Baron Von der Heydt in the mid-1920ies.

In 1928, Baron Von der Heydt commissioned the German architect Emil Fahrenkamp to build the new hotel in pure Bauhaus style.

The hotel as well as the whole area was renovated in 1992 and 2007.

The hotel is located in a truly historic environment on a quiet hill North of Ascona at the shore of Lago Maggiore.
